The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a significant awards ceremony nears, one notices an outcry for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial above others. This is the request: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types actually cover numerous genres, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another creative title was excluded in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles globally and have been for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier game development, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
